Exploring Australia Holidays

Margaret River Food and Wine

Being one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world, it’s no surprise that Western Australia produces such a profusion of fresh local flavours, succulent seafood, world-class wines and highly prized black truffles. Squid, oysters, lobster, crab, and cod are available in abundance and are as fresh as you can get anywhere.

Margaret River, a 3-hour-drive from Perth, is Australia’s foodie hub. It is also the only wine region in Australia where visitors can hop from award-winning wineries and restaurants to stunning (empty) beaches, tall-timber forests and fascinating caves.

Margaret River

With its 150 wineries, Margaret River has a lot on offer when it comes to good wine. Here, 25% of Australia’s A level wines are produced, so it is pretty much guaranteed that you’ll have incredible wine everywhere you go. And on top, you’ll be spoilt for choice with many fine restaurants, boutique breweries, art galleries and fresh produce, from divine cheeses to chocolate.

Every Saturday, you have the chance to explore the produce stalls at Margaret River’s famer’s market. Arrive early to buy sweet, juicy apples, snap-fresh watercress, earthy garlic and organic potatoes all pulled from the dirt or plucked from the tree that morning.

Join a winery tour, relax at one of the stunning beaches, visit Ngilgi Cave, book a surf lesson or go on a truffle hunt (June-August only) – Margaret River has a lot on offer for anyone.
