Escape the city and experience tranquility in the High Atlas Mountains. Only 65 km from Marrakech, you will feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

This is the perfect way to take a break from the hustle and bustle, and also gives an amazing opportunity to learn more about the Amazigh way of life.

The Berbers, also known as the Amazigh, belong to a group of “nations without a state.” They are the indigenous inhabitants of Morocco, speaking distinct dialects and predominantly residing in mountainous regions.

Traditionally, Berber women manage the household while the men engage in agriculture. Berber culture is rich with symbolism and you will see that ladies often adorn themselves with tattoos, jewelry, and henna, each with unique patterns designed to offer protection. These symbols are intricately woven into textiles and jewelry. If you have the privilege to speak with Amazigh, take the opportunity to learn about their heritage – it is fascinating.

There are many ways to support the Berber people and preserve their rich and proud heritage. Experience the beauty of Berber culture and authentic Morocco with Fleewinter!

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Tassa Ouirgane

You will be picked up from the airport or your accommodation and driven in a 4×4 car to Tassa Ouirgane in the High Atlas Mountains. Tassa Ouirgane is perched at 1300 meters in the middle of Toubkal National Park, about 1.5 hours away from Marrakech.

Enjoy mint tea on the panoramic terrace before your evening meal. Immerse yourself in the silence of the Berber village, and admire the endlessly starry sky.

Day 2 - Closer to nature and tradition

Wake up early to catch the sunrise on the terrace. Whenever you wake up, breakfast will be ready for you.

Spend the day as you wish – whether you prefer to relax or take part in local activities, we’ve got you covered!

If you choose for an active day, you could enjoy a guided walk in the National Park, where you’ll stroll through fields of apricots and peaches and visit the historic hydraulic mill. After a delicious lunch, you’ll explore the Takherkhort Reserve and see if you’ve got shepherds eyes by spotting Berbery sheep or one of the 150 bird species native to the area.
After a cup of refreshing mint tea, you’ll learn the secrets of how to make Amazigh tannourt bread with a friendly demonstration.  After having your own turn, you will try the bread with locally produced organic olive oil and wild thyme and lavender honey – afternoon snacks don’t come more satisfying or delicious than this.
In the evening, stroll around the village, or simply sit and enjoy the calmness before dinner.

Day 3 - Heading Marrakech

After partaking in a delicious breakfast, treat yourself to a leisurely stroll, savour a coffee on the terrace, or simply take time to unwind.

Later in the morning, your driver will take you back to Marrakech, but if you prefer, you can extend your stay and enjoy a delicious lunch in the mountains before heading to your next destination.

On the way to Marrakech, you will stop at the Bio-aromatic Garden to open your senses to nature.

Relish the exceptional setting that this garden offers, and rest and relax.  Take a foot bath, which can also be combined with a relaxing foot massage performed with Nectarome massage oil containing argan oil and verbena essential oil – heavenly.

To delve further into the beauty of Berber culture, we also recommend a workshop discovering how to apply high-quality henna to hands, feet, or arms.

Day 4 - The Amazigh Spirit in Marrakech

Stay in the heart of the Old Town at Riad Le Pèlerin, which showcases historical and original Moroccan design as a tribute to the Berber people.

You will experience a natural atmosphere that will make you feel disconnected from the real world: a true oasis in the city.

In the early morning or late afternoon, pay a visit to The Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts to admire Berber art and culture.  It’s an inspiring place and a must-see for anyone visiting Marrakech.  Learn more about Pierre Bergé (and Yves Saint Laurent!) here.

Day 5 - Return home with good energy!

Your driver will collect you from your riad for the short trip back to the airport.

We hope that the positive energy gained in the Atlas Mountains, amidst nature and close to the Amazigh culture experienced in Marrakech, will stay with you for a long time – but if it starts to run out, then come back.  The mountains – and Morocco – will be ready to welcome you.
