Stay a night or two at the Phong Nha Lake House and you will wish you had the life of Tham and her Australian husband, who have set up this beautiful little guest house on the edge of a scenic lake. You’ll likely make friends with their children or get chatting to the other guests at this intimate and friendly little hotel.

The real selling point for this guesthouse is its wonderful location, besides the lake. On a nice day the views are tremendous and when comfortably lounging in one of their chairs overlooking the lake you’ll forget the reason you travelled to this fairly remote part of Vietnam (which more than likely was because of the incredible caves in this region).

The guesthouse has a selection of simple but smart and clean rooms for guests. They are all painted in a clean white shades with tiled floors and most have wooden four-poster beds, which are draped with mosquito nets. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with en-suites that have hot showers. This is not for the traveller who is seeking a luxurious hotel but it is perfect for the intrepid traveller who wants to get off the beaten path in Vietnam.

The guesthouse has a bar and restaurant area that offers panoramic views over the lake and serves a delicious mix of international and Vietnamese cuisine.

The resort is conveniently a 10-minute drive to Phong Nha Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nhat Le Beach is a 20-minute drive, while Thien Duong Cave, Dong Hoi Train Station and Dong Hoi Airport are accessible with a 30-minute drive.
