"Grand hotel, very atmospheric of the French Colonial era. Great views over the river towards the Citadel. Dinner was pricier than some of the other places we had eaten but it's truly an experience not to be missed." - Debbie MW, April 2017

“A stunning hotel and the pool is great.” - Jon B, August 2015.

“Unbelievable! Helped by an unexpected upgrade to a suite! Pool was the biggest, deepest hotel pool I have ever seen and the room was amazing.” - Sarah P, Aug 2015.

A fitting hotel for Vietnam's ancient Imperial city, La Residence oozes historical charm and character. The enchanting boutique hotel sits on the banks of the fabled Perfume River overlooking the former Imperial Citadel, which was once home to the Emperors of the country.

Today, the former residence of the French governor has been painstakingly restored and refashioned, embracing its original 1930s art deco inspirations.

Despite its central location, La Residence has a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. It boats a large outdoor salt water swimming pool set in manicured, tropical gardens, a well equipped gym, tennis courts and a boutique shop on site.

With 122 rooms and suites, great care has been taken to preserve the charm, comfort and atmosphere of a classic colonial villa. All rooms have wi-fi, a private balcony or terrace (except six in the original building), a safety deposit box and a smart en-suite fitted out with either a bath tub or shower.

The rooms are located in three different buildings. The original building, which was the home to the French Governor in colonial days, is home to 10 gorgeous unique suite and deluxe rooms, which are wonderfully unique and beautifully designed. The suites are extremely spacious.

The superior, superior river view and deluxe rooms can be found in the identical annex buildings either side of the original mansion. These rooms are still some of the best in Hue but not as unique as those in the original building

All rooms are adorned with classic Art Deco furnishings include vintage ceramic tilies in the bathroom, wooden floors, timbered floors, cocoa-brown wood furniture; and there are elegant touches like glass lamps and pedestal sinks.

Commanding the entire upper-storey of the original building, the Resident Suite is spectacular and vast, and surprisingly good value for money. It boats the largest terrace in the house with panoramic river and garden views.

The hotel has an excellent restaurant, Le Parfum, which attracts guests from outside for its creative Asian, Vietnamese and European flavours - and a lovely bar Le Gouverneur.

The hotel is very central, and right on the doorstep of the cultural treasures of Hue, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a heritage site. Top must-see sites include the tombs of the Hue Kings and the city's stunning, imperial citadel, which has retained the majesty and elegance of the Imperial Dynasty, despite American bombings.

La Residence is 17km from Hue Airport and 100km from Da Nang.
