Stepping into The Alcove Library Hotel, guests are greeted by an impressive floor-to-ceiling wall of international books and stylish European decor (and yes, guests can borrow any of them). Nestled into the back streets of a calm neighbourhood, this is one of the nicest boutique hotels in the city.

We were delighted when we discovered the Alcove Library. In a city where most hotels are large and branded, the Alcove Library is a hidden treasure. The handsomely appointed rooms are smart and the hotel has lovely finishing touches. The catch? This hotel is further out of town than the others - the journey time is about 20 minutes or longer depending on traffic.

Contemporary and spacious, the air-conditioned rooms and suites feature a flat-screen TV, iPod dock and a personal safe. Suites include a small kitchenette. Private bathrooms come with a relaxing rainshower and toiletries.

There are about four different room categories, beginning wight he Alcove Queen which is the smallest but still have desks and en-suites with rain showers, while the Alcove Twin and King rooms are slightly larger with nice big windows. We think it is worth upgrading to the Alcove Suite rooms which are very spacious with an integrated kitchenette and dining area as well as work desk and spacious bathroom. But the Grand Alcove Room is the finest of all with a lounge area and plush love seat. It is only about £25 difference between the Queen Room and the Grand Alcove room, which is twice the size.

Mouth-watering burgers, succulent steaks, fresh greens and delicious cocktails, just some of what you can expect at Roadhouse Saigon Bar and Restaurant. Situated on the top floor of the hotel, Roadhouse Saigon brings a modern all-American vibe in a casual and friendly setting, the perfect place for a quiet evening. Cocktails, wines and local beers all feature on the drinks list.

The Alcove Library has some wonderful touches, like offering a breakfast in bed service, while the turndown service includes a bedtime story with a complimentary chocolate, just to complete your day.

The Alcove Library Hotel sits on a quiet street near Nguyen Van Troi, which is only about 15 minutes from the airport.
