The Eugenia Sukhumvit, Bangkok - FBE001

Strangely, this beautiful 19th century colonial-style house was built from scratch just two years ago. With its 12 suites the Eugenia slots in perfectly to Bangkok's bustling new town and looks as though it has stood for years while the rest of the city grew around it.

Normally when a building is designed to look old it can take on a fake almost Disneyland like appearance. But at the Eugenia through a commitment to use old materials and antique fixtures and furniture throughout, there exists a great integrity. If it wasn't so uncharacteristic for the area which is dominated by soaring skyscrapers, you honestly wouldn't know it was a new build. The Eugenia doesn't try to deny its creation however, but instead enjoys the sharp contrast it brings to its surrounds, introducing a splash of what you see in Bangkok's old town to its new.

WHAT ITS GOT

The hotel has just 12 suites giving it a rather homely feel. Each is en-suite, with air-conditioning and decorated with antique furniture, fittings and furnishings throughout. There are 2 twin rooms available and 2 sets of interlinking rooms via a balcony, ideal for families.

The lobby, reception area, cafe, restaurant, library and lounge are all set on the ground floor, as is the swimming pool and the Thai sala found in the rear courtyard.

The Eugenia also has an impressive garage, that houses a selection of beautifully restored and maintained vintage sedans and limousines which can be hired along with a chauffeur for airport transfers or exploration of the city.

FOOD & DRINK

The Eugenia's D.B Bradley dining room is an atmospheric, intimate affair. Named after the first missionary to arrive in the country in 1835, the dishes offer an interesting mix of traditional European food and Thai cooking. For example Kobe Beef with Pho (Vietnamese noodle), Toro (Tuna belly) with Pasta or Crab Miso with Spaghetti. Lunch is served from 11h30 to 14h30 and dinner from 18h00 to 23h00. Both are open to non-residents, dependant on availability.

Breakfast, Afternoon Tea & all day light meals are served in the Zheng He Lounge. There is also a full drinks menu which can be accompanied by international Canap?s, Tapas, & Desserts served from noon until midnight. Zheng He was a great Chinese explorer who sailed the biggest fleet of ships (or junks) from China to South East Asia, India, Ceylon, Persia and Africa some 600 years ago. Some suggests that he had actually visited the Americas and Australasia as well.

LOCATION, FUN & GAMES

The Eugenia is centrally located on Soi 31, off the Sukhumvit Road. It is in the heart of modern downtown Bangkok City. From here you can explore the city by day travelling across to the old town, but then have the best restaurants and shops at your disposal when you return in the evening. Approximately 1 hour from the airport.

ESSENTIAL EXTRAS

The hotel welcomes children of all ages and is suitable for elderly guests, however please note that all the bedrooms are on the first and second floors and there is no lift.
