The main mess area is also Alex Walker's home and dinners are served en-famille, ensuring a real 'home away from home' experience. Share stories of the days adventures around the camp fire and enjoy the relaxed vibe which is informal and you are encouraged to put up your feet and feel at home!

The key to a safari with Serian is that each group has their own open-top safari vehicle with a dedicated guide and spotter team who will share the wonders of the Serengeti with you. This freedom allows you to get the most out of your day - either head out for a full day with a picnic in the bush or have a lazy siesta at camp before sundowners. The guides have intimate knowledge with the area and will ensure that you have an unforgettable safari experience. The area also lends itself to short walking safaris - set off at first light with Alex or a guide and walking in the bush always allows one to see the smaller secrets the bush holds. Learn more about the animal spoors and plants.

'Serian', meaning 'peaceful, calm, serene' in the Masai language, allows you slip away from the bustle of contemporary life, and experience untamed Africa in traditional tented splendour.

Serian's Serengeti is a mobile camp, and the movement is governed by the wildebeest migration. From July to mid-November, along with 1.5 million gnus - are situated in the far north of the Serengeti plains. Contrary to popular belief, it's not the case that the migration crosses the river just once on its route to Kenya: rather, the herds circle within the Mara ecosystem, seeking adequate grazing and water - and these movements often take them back and forth over the water.

The beauty of Northern Serengeti is it is the heart of the crossings, and in this respect, Serian Serengeti is all about location. The camp is set a mere 2 kilometres from the Mara River, within minutes of the major crossing points.

Watching a crossing is something that is thrilling to the core: the intensity, the trauma and the sheer spectacle, is all-absorbing, and resonates on a deep and primal level. Hundreds of thousands of pounding hooves set the tempo, and the nasal grunting hits a frenetic pitch: creatures cease to be individuals and operate as a swarm, teeming unseeingly toward the water. The crush, dust and panic as they launch themselves in and struggle across the current - claimed by crocodiles and crushed by each other - epitomises the quintessential rawness of nature's character.

While the focus is on this phenomenal display, it's not all that's on offer - away from the water, there are plenty of secret valleys and ranging hills, rich with plains game, big cats and stunning bird life. The camp is nestled among the trees on a slight slope, looking north toward the Lamai Wedge - a slice of the Serengeti defined by the Mara River and the Kenyan border. This area of rolling savannah, boulder-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves, is littered with inconceivably enormous herds of wildebeest, topi and zebra - as well as all the predators that gorge on this movable feast. Needless to say, the game-viewing you can expect is world-class!

Access to the Serian Serengeti is possible with flights from Nairobi as well as through a connection on the main safari circuit of Tanzania and Kenya. We do also recommend to end with a couple of nights in Zanzibar where you can enjoy a laid back beach experience.
