Vil Uyana is based around a traditional Sri Lankan village with 25 spacious dwellings in four habitats. There are 3 Lakeside Over Water Dwellings whose private decks jut out over the lotus filled channels. 12 Marsh/Paddy-field dwellings blend in perfectly with their respective habitats, each dwelling is built on stilts over marsh or paddy field giving you a sense of being at one with the natural environment. Each have private decks and plunge pools. Finally, 10 Forest Dwellings built on two levels. On the upper level is a spacious bedroom with a lounge area. Downstairs, a dining room and a wonderfully tempting private swimming pool fuses perfectly with the surrounding forest backdrop.
The dwellings are in keeping with the lush tropical environment, connected by wooden walkways, with timber flooring, ceilings of bamboo and sloping roofs thatched with coconut palm. At the same time they are extremely luxurious and fully equipped with air-conditioning, IDD telephone, mini bar, 29" flat screen TV with satellite channels, coffee/tea making facilities, Bose DVD/CD home entertainment system, electronic safe, and even your own sarong, pair of reed slippers and umbrellas.
Vil Uyana has two restaurants to choose from. The Apsara is furnished in teak with spectacular views for all day fine dining. The Sulang is a relaxed cafe for light bites and drinks. Other dining options include Spa dining at the Island Spa, Signature dining on the deck within the privacy of your own dwelling, Cellar dining at Vil Uyana's excellently-stocked wine cellar, and outdoor dining at the Kamatha by the paddy fields, where a typical village rice and curry meal is offered on a banana leaf. Sri Lankan rice and curries and international cuisine are on offer at the hotel. A special vegetarian menu is also available
On site Vil Uyana has a great library filled with numerous titles including books on Sri Lanka and sits beside a lotus-filled pond. In addition, the Island Spa & Wellness Centre consists of a fully-equipped air-conditioned gym surrounded by water, a yoga pavilion, and a wellness centre headed by an Ayurvedic Physician.
Vil Uyana is closely situated to many of the heritage sites in Sigiriya, Dambulla, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. A bicycle trail runs through quaint hamlets providing an insight into rural life. Morning walks along the Sigiriya bird trail take you to the foothills of the Sigiriya Rock and the Sigiriya tank. An in-house naturalist can take guests on guided nature walks and excursions.

"Vil Uyana was great. Plenty of space for the children, the staff were helpful and there was a decent selection of food. Our very young children still remember seeing the crocodile in the lake which has been quite a talking point. 5/5" EB - August 2016
"5/5 for Vil Uyana - wonderful wildlife. Fabulous accommodation. Slow service in dining room though which was hard to explain as there were plenty of staff. One night we waited for 45 minutes before any service at all." - FL, Aug 2015
