Max Wadiya is a lovely beachfront property located just north of Galle on the west coast of Sri Lanka. It consists of a three-bedroom villa and two self-contained suites. The villa and suites can be rented by separate parties or you can book the property as a whole providing 5 bedrooms and exclusive use.

With hammocks swaying on the edge of a secluded beach, this villa is a relaxing and popular choice for people who want to get away from it all. The two-storey villa has three double bedrooms, comfortably sleeping six, while the two luxury suites are in a separate building across a charming courtyard.

All rooms in both types of accommodation are air conditioned and the resort is well-stocked with linens and towels as well as a washing machine, a dryer and ironing facilities. There is an office with phones, fax, printer and an ADSL Internet with wireless connections. An intercom system connects you to all parts of the Wadiya.

Each bedroom in the villa has an adjoining bathroom, and there is a combined living and dining room. Patios on both floors open out to the sea. There is a library of well-thumbed pocket books and a TV/DVD corner with cable television. A music system is set up downstairs in the bar. There is also a iPod docking station available on request. The villa is very child-friendly with highchair, playpens, infant cots and a security gate at the top of the stairs.

Each suite occupies a complete floor with an all-glass front facing the sea and opens onto a verandah for reading or dining in privacy. A mini pantry in each Suite is equipped with a fridge, coffee machine and electric kettle. Each Suite has its own music system, TV and DVD systems.

A new salt water swimming pool opened in 2011 with a smaller attached pool for toddlers. It is large enough to swim laps or for cooling off with family and friends. Guests can relax in the landscaped garden, partially shaded by a coconut grove or enjoy a chilled glass of wine in the pavilion. You can even enjoy a Ayurvedic body massage, yoga lessons or take an introductory lesson in Sri Lankan cuisine given by resort manager Ranjan and the chefs. Ranjan lives on the property with his family and Brownie the dog, his English is good and is very helpful about the local area. There is also a gardener, two housekeeping staff and a security guard

Dinner is prepared in Wadiya's private kitchen. The chefs can whip up Sri Lankan curries, Western fare and other Asian dishes but specialises in fresh and simple Sri Lankan dishes, making the most of what the fishermen's catch each day. The daily menu is varied, flexible and can be tailored to your tastes. Guests can dine in the privacy of the verandah, in one of the garden pavilions, in the courtyard by the fountain or under the stars on the beach with the waves lapping onto the shore.

Wadiya is just 2km south of the little fishing town of Ambalangoda, home of mask making and devil dancing, with a mask museum and as well as traditional folk dancing all on offer. The town has a colourful fisheries harbour and market where it sells produce caught by local fishermen. The town has a train and bus station that connects with most of the island as well as supermarkets, pharmacies, and banks with ATM machines that accept most international credit cards. There are photo shops, clothing and crafts stores. The area is well known for the antique showrooms along the Galle Road.

There are plenty of other things to do in the area.Snorkelling and scuba diving can be easily arranged and a selection of outdoor sports equipment is available for the more energetic. Catamarans or motor boats can be rented to explore the lagoons and motorbikes can also be rented to visit the neighbouring tea estates and rural villages in the south.
