This charming little island on the northwestern reef, which is only 100 meters wide and 500 meters long, has attractive sugar white sand banks on both ends and is surrounded by a beautiful turquoise lagoon.

The public areas, including the bar, spa and restaurant are all built in a picturesque Maldivian style with thatched roofs, and the island also has an infinity swimming pool and a 5* Padi dive centre.

Komandoo is perfectly situated in a channel opening, which makes it very interesting for divers and snorkelers and it has a magnificent house reef. You never know what to expect when entering the waters... Turtles, Mantas, Sharks or Rays. There are more than 40 dive sites within a 10 to 45 minute boat ride away. Full day, early morning, and night dive excursions are organised regularly.

There are three different types of accommodation on offer; the Beach Villas, the Jacuzzi Beach Villas and the romantic Jacuzzi Water Villas. The spacious, wooden Beach Villas each have a large wooden terrace overlooking the beach with sun lounges. The deluxe bathroom, which is partly open-air, has a walk-in hot and cold desalinated water shower in a lovely tropical garden and twin wash basins. The Jacuzzi Beach Villas also feature a private Jacuzzi outside as well as a sitting area inside, while the Jacuzzi Water Villas sit on wooden columns in the south lagoon with a large, secluded, furnished, partly roofed terrace and sundeck that has stairs down to the water. They offer panoramic views of the Indian and have a spacious bedroom and sitting area furnished in solid teak furniture. The bathrooms have a walk-in rain shower and a Jacuzzi bath overlooking the turquoise lagoon.

The resort has two restaurants and a bar. The Falhy main restaurant offers a good buffet selection from breakfast, lunch and dinner and its deck extends over the water, while Aqua is a fine dining restaurant, built on stilts over water. A candle lit dinner can also be arranged on the beach with a specially crafted menu to your tastes.

The rates include one Sunset Cruise during the course of your stay as well as the use of windsurf equipment for experienced windsurfers, and kayaks. The resort also has a well-equipped gym and other sport facilities include badminton, table tennis, volleyball, darts and board games. There is a wide range of trips and tours to choose from; visit a deserted island for a day, a snorkel safari or visit a nearby local cultural island.

Komandoo, which is the sister island to Kureda, has a 4 star + rating and offers good value rates at half-board - although this can be upgraded to an all-inclusive package. The minimum stay is six nights and the return sea plane transfer, which takes 40 minutes from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, costs £257.
