"Horathapola get top marks 5/5. Riding the Cart and Bull was a highlight as was Pia's sense of humor"

In the main house on the first floor is a large air-conditioned master bedroom with high ceilings. It is furnished with antique furniture including a carved king-size four poster bed and has an en-suite bathroom. There is a large verandah which overlooks the swimming pool.

Also on the first floor is a family suite which comprises of a triple room with a king-size four poster bed and a large single bed. There is a further double room with a queen-size bed and both rooms have en-suite bathrooms. These rooms are connected via a covered sitting area.

On the ground floor of the house is a large room which has a king-size bed and a single brass bed. This combination makes it ideal for a family.

A seperate lodge set away from the main house consists of a master bedroom and a smaller double room. The lodge has a private open balcony, dining area and small kitchen.

There is a huge swimming pool in the garden and fantastic scenery as the bungalows are set in an extensive coconut palm plantation. This is a place for early nights and restful days and so there are no televisions or internet to be found at Horathapola. Guests may use the owners internet on request.

The food is Sri Lankan traditionally cooked to the best possible standards and a good range of alcohol is served except on full moon days.

Laze by the pool or explore the estate in the resident bullock cart. Wander around the nearby village temples and enjoy bicycle rides on the quiet village roads.

No real drawbacks apart from it's rural location, which will be ideal for some but not for those who want restaurants and nightlife.
