"We stayed at Ambalama villa for one week in March. We travelled with our two small children (aged 2 and 3). We had an amazing holiday. The Villa, garden and pool are all absolutely fantastic... "Ambalama was pure luxury and, again, we were extremely well looked after. We were a bit surprised by the proximity of the villa to the noisy road but got used to that very quickly and, ideally we would have liked to have been able to go straight out into safe sea. But we did find the safe swimming bit just further down which was perfect for the boys for their first snorkelling experience and, of course, the pool was superb. They also made great friends with the boys next door within minutes of arriving which led to many good-natured cricket matches and long chats on the wall watching their uncles fishing on their stilts." As you enter the villa you are drawn to the framed spectacular Indian Ocean view beyond the infinity pool .The open plan living area comprises a main sitting area with large sofas and lounge chairs and a dining area comprising a large round table suitable for 8-10 people.
Large teak double doors lead directly to the pool and frame views of the beach and Indian Ocean on the other side of the garden. Sun loungers are well spaced on either side of the pool. The sandy beach outside the villa is peaceful and there is reef sheltered pool just a few minutes stroll along the beach for safe bathing. Please note that you can not swim directly in front of the villa.
There are four bedrooms in the villa in two wings. Three of the bedrooms are doubles and one twin. All bedrooms have air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, two having outdoor showers. Two additional day beds are available for children together with a baby cot.
For dining there is a choice of indoors in the dining area or outside on the terrace beside the pool. Be sure to experience a BBQ in the garden by the beach one night after watching the amazing sunsets. The villa is fully staffed with night security.
Ambalama's cuisine prepared by the highly recommended house chef is a distinctive and memorable part of one's stay at the villa. The chef will discuss various meal options with you on a daily basis, shop accordingly and prepare the food. You are more than welcome into the kitchen at anytime for a first hand introduction to Sri Lankan cookery and there is a wide choice of local and international dishes. All food and beverage is charged at cost via a cash float system.
The villa has free wifi, a dock with speakers for iPods etc.. and a portable massage table for therapists who will come to the villa. It has two lily ponds and a beachside bale for relaxation.
Ambalama is 10-15 minutes from the historic town of Galle containing two of Sri Lankan's famous sites. The 300 year old Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was built by the Dutch and the Galle International Cricket Ground. You can also go scuba diving (Dec - April), deep sea fishing, mountain biking , blue whale watching and visits to turtle hatcheries in the local area. Full day excursions to Yala National Park, the low lying tea plantations and surfing can be arranged.
