Teak Villa in Sri Lanka was a extraordinary nice Place!! D.R. (Dec 13)

From its elevated position overlooking Seenimodera beach, the villa is made entirely of teak - one of Sri Lanka's sustainable hardwoods.

The gardens are home to a collection of wonderful tropical flora and have become a haven for a stunning collection of tropical birds. Woodpecker, peacocks, birds of paradise, kingfisher and the busy 'chit chat' birds luxuriate in its lush profusion. Sea eagles hover above and, as dusk falls and a dark tropical night descends, fireflies light up the sky.

Barefoot simplicity is the key to The Teak House. Relax in the inside/outside open plan living room. Plug your favourite tunes into the Philips sound system. Swing in a hammock beneath the coconut palms or take a cocktail on the bespoke teak sun loungers.

Seven foot, luxury four poster beds are the centrepiece of each of the two, vast double bedrooms. Swathed in fine white mosquito nets and boasting the finest linen, the beds ensure that sleep will never elude you at The Teak House. High ceilings and open shutters maximise the breeze flowing from the Indian Ocean that crashes below. Ceiling fans are rarely required. Each room benefits from an en-suite shower room complete with polished cement walls and wonderfully hot water. Additional single beds and mosquito nets are available for extra guests or children. There is also a broadband dongle for internet access.

With fresh tropical fruit and a wide variety of seafood, food is a delight at The Teak House. The menu comprising of a wide range of cuisine from Sri Lankan, Thai and what is known colloquially as 'international'. A sample menu is available on request.

Pan-fried fillets of freshly caught seer fish with capers or chicken and banana flower salad are just two of the house dishes that will tantalise your palate. In season, a local fisherman brings a choice of fish straight from the ocean or you can be adventurous and go to the local market to see what is on offer.

If you would like to eat out a range of options are available, from Wini's famous seafood on Goyambokka beach or the luxurious Amanwella, a five star hotel not five minutes away. The choice is yours.

The Teak House is located in Tangalle, some 190 km south from Colombo. Moments before the 191km marker on the Galle Road and directly opposite the gates to Seenimodera temple, take a right turn onto a dirt road on the sea side. At the end of the road on the right hand side, you will find The Teak House.

Tissa and Seeni are the canine 'watchers' of Tangaroa. The dogs have been brought up by Chris and Nicola Crewe-Read since weaning. They are fully protected in terms of vaccines and they are thrilled to provide not only company, an escort to the beach but also razor-sharp night hearing should someone come to see you. In addition to infra red security lights attached to each corner of the roof, powerful torches are also provided.
