This idyllic sprawling property has been built into the mountainside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. It has a splendid mix of accommodation - from more rustic stone bungalows to luxuriously appointed rooms and villas with private pools.

Despite its fairly isolated and picturesque location, the resort has all the latest mod-cons including wi-fi and flat screen TVs in the room, as well as two lovely outdoor pools - one garden and one infinity pool, making it a great choice for those who want to relax in Kep for a few days.

The 29 air-conditioned rooms have a charming, rustic feel (think reclaimed timber and bamboo against stone or whitewashed walls) and all have en suite bathrooms. Each room is fitted with wooden furnishings and features a private terrace or balcony.

Veranda Resort has recently upgraded its rooms, which are all unique in size, shape and design. The hotel has a long list of ‘room types’ and we have plenty of favourites. The best of the cheaper range are the Deluxe Rosewood rooms, which offer great views out to the ocean in cute, rustic style rooms - we especially love room A2 and the penthouse here as they have spectacular views over the resort and ocean beyond with large terraces.

In the Cliff building, we can thoroughly recommend the superior doubles and twins that agin have great views and stylish (if a little more plain) decor. Here rooms GR1 and GR8 are our favourites - we especially love the large terrace on GR1 that offers tremendous views from the privacy of your very own hammock. Meanwhile the stone villas are very good and of course the two large villas with private pools are a delight - these are especially good for families as they have two double rooms in a two-storey building.

The charming open-air restaurant serves western and Asian dishes - including fresh seafood and grilled specialities - with fabulous ocean views served on the side. Meanwhile, snacks and cocktails can be enjoyed at the poolside bar.

There is a shop at the resort as well as a tour-desk, a spa and a delicious bakery.

The town and the beach are 15 - 20 minutes walk down a steep incline. Phnom Penh International Airport is about 135 km away. We do not recommend this resort for travellers with mobility issues.
