Teichelmann’s B&B is a heritage property in the centre of Hokitika. It was built by West Coast mountaineer and conservationist Dr Teichelmann in 1910, and used as his home and consulting rooms. The house is full of fascinating West Coast history and memorabilia.

Brian and Frances, the owners, are very knowledgeable about the history of their home and the surrounding area, so if you’re interested in the history of Hokitika as a booming gold town and bustling port in the 1800s then this is the place to stay.

There are six rooms to choose from, all with their own individual style and history. The premium room is the separate Garden Cottage, a recent addition, which features a giant spa bath that looks out onto a private fern garden.

Being in the centre of town, Teichelmanns is an easy walk to restaurants, cafes, the beach and local museums and jade shops.
