Fleewinter

Ribbonwood Retreat is named after the large tree at the front of the property. In fact the whole area is surrounded with native trees, a lot of them planted by Jonathan and Julie, which attract the Bellbirds, Tui and other native birds to the area.

Ribbonwood is situated a few minutes drive from the town of Franz Josef and about 10 minutes drive from the glacier itself. It is a rural setting with views over the forests, mountains and even the glaciers on a clear day.

There is one large room in the separate self-contained cottage with en-suite bathroom and three bedrooms in the main house, which can be configured in different ways depending on whether groups, couples or families are travelling. The ground floor room has a private bathroom and the two upstairs rooms share a bathroom, however the whole top floor can be hired out if privacy is required for a small surcharge on the individual room price.

Breakfasts are homemade and healthy using the freshest local ingredients; many of the fruit and vegetables are sourced directly from the garden. For evening meals, Julie and Jonathan can organise a restaurant for you in town who will pick you up and deliver you home at no extra cost.

Julie and Jonathan both have a passion for the environment and travel. Jonathan is especially knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. They will both be delighted to help you plan your visit or help you identify a bird or a plant you might have spotted.
