Riad Hikaya is a wonderful boutique guesthouse in the medina of Marrakech. It has 8 bedrooms,a heated pool and a rooftop terrace with jacuzzi.
The riad itself is built over two courtyards, which makes it a 'proper' riad in the eyes of purists (one courtyard for the family and one for doing business). There are 5 bedrooms on two levels around the larger patio, which also has a good sized pool by riad standards - heated in the winter. A dining room connects to the smaller courtyard. This courtyard has 3 bedrooms leading from it - ideal for a family or group of friends.
There is a staircase for each courtyard which connects the two levels and then goes up to the roof terrace where there is an open air dining area and two covered "caidal tents" for relaxing with a drink or curling up with a book. In one corner is the heated Jacuzzi (big enough for 4) to soak away the aches after a hard days shopping in the souks or trekking in the Atlas mountains. Also on the roof is a traditional hammam for relaxing scrubs and a treatment room for massages.
As with all our riads, breakfast is included and there is an on demand dinner service (needs to be confirmed in advance each day). The owners will also arrange cooking demonstrations, guides and trips around Marrakech.
All the bedrooms are individually styled and have double beds (many of which can be split into twins) and each room has a beautiful bathroom with shower. Some also have stunning baths in Tadelakt (polished plaster) or beaten copper. Each room comes with a bathrobe to use during the stay and "babouche" slippers.
The location is in the southern "Kasbah" part of the medina which has its own village atmosphere and you are around 15 minutes walk from the main square. Many of the famous restaurants and historic sights are closer still. It also has the advantage that our drivers can get almost to the front door so saving the problem of carting luggage through the alleyways.
"Hikaya" means story in Arabic and staying here will make you feel like you are a character from a romantic novel - and you should return home with plenty of tales to tell
