Sukau Rainforest Lodge was one of the first lodges in Borneo to embrace sustainable tourism practices while providing guests unparalleled access to wildlife and a bit of luxury.

As the lodge is accessible by boat, guests have the opportunity to spot wild proboscis monkeys, macaques, crocodiles, and other wildlife during the two-hour ride from Sandakan to Sukau. We strongly recommend having your camera and binoculars to hand.

Superior rooms are identical save for bed choice between two twins and one king. All are en-suite with hot water showers and are equipped with both fan and air conditioning. Rooms are sufficiently spacious with a desk and sitting area. Superior rooms were updated during the resort's closure in 2020-21. Safe drinking water is provided around the resort for guests to refill and tea and coffee are available at all times. Full board is included during a stay at Sukau Rainforest Lodge with hearty meals served buffet style.

Ten luxurious Borneo Villas opened in 2017, all with private outdoor seating areas and gorgeous decor. Each villa contains two en-suite bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with two twins. Bedrooms can be booked individually or a villa booked completely. The latter is an ideal arrangement for families as an exterior door can be closed, creating a private space for the guests within. An additional small swimming pool is exclusive to guests in the Villas.

The lodge is situated in the jungle so WiFi and phone service are extremely limited. Mosquito repellent is available for purchase but we recommend bringing your own. Two river cruises per day and talks by the guides are included in a stay at Sukau. This is an excellent place to see proboscis monkeys and orangutans in their natural habitat. Borneo Pygmy Elephants have also been known to visit the area.

Committed to developing the community, conserving the land and wildlife, Sukau Rainforest Lodge trains local residents as staff and guides. Boats are equipped with outboard engines and electric motors to minimize noise disturbance for guests and wildlife. A small donation is made per visitor to the non-profit BEST Society (Borneo Ecotourism Solutions and Technology).
