Rooms are divided into two wings: Garden and Ocean. All have balconies and spacious seating areas. Those in the Ocean Wing may use a second pool, an oversize Jacuzzi, and have their own outdoor ocean-facing tubs. This wing is quieter and we think it's worth the upgrade for the added privacy, service, and access to the additional pool. Not to mention the daily hors d'oeuvres available each afternoon!
The hotel has five full restaurants: the award-winning Naan, Flavours of India; the Japanese Teppan-Yaki restaurant, Kozan; Italian Oceano; Coffee Terrace, serving international cuisine; and Tepi Laut Makan Street, an outdoor restaurant designed hawker-style. The beachfront Sampan Bar is a perfect spot to watch the sunset and enjoy happy hour specials while the Garden Wing Pool Bar serves snacks throughout the afternoon. Cocktails and snacks are also available in the lobby lounge.
A staffed children's club has indoor and outdoor play areas and scheduled daily activities. A large nature reserve is home to a variety of native flora and fauna. The knowledgeable staff conduct nature walks through the reserve as well as a children's ranger program. A full service spa, 18-hole golf course, use of non-motorized water sports equipment, fitness centre complete with group classes, and horseback riding round out the available amenities. Shangri-La's Rasa Ria is truly a full-service resort.
Rasa Ria is a bit further from the airport than other Kota Kinabalu hotels but for anyone climbing or visiting Mt. Kinabalu, the location is an ideal choice. Shuttle service can be arranged into Kota Kinabalu.
