A night at Mystic Mountain Homestay is sure to be one of the most memorable nights during your time in Laos. You will be looked after by Khamsone and his wife, with their children and pets at your feet.

This is a totally private homestay, which means you will be the only people staying for the night or two. Although basic, you will be given a private room to sleep in which is both clean and spacious with misquito nets. The toilet is a squat loo in a clean wooden out-shed in the gardens of the family home and while there is no working shower, you will be able to freshen up with a large bucket of warm water in the evening or morning.

The beauty of staying here, aside from being looked after by your wonderful hosts who will take you into their home and treat you like family, is that you are totally off the tourist trail. This stunning coffee plantation is nestled in some of deepest, darkest hills of the Bolaven Plateau.

Khamsone will bring you to this area in a vintage 1945 jeep and teach you all there is to know about coffee production on his private, family plantation. There are a multitude of trekking options in the area including a wonderful sunset hike that's only really possible if you are staying here for the night. Khamsone, who speaks excellent English, will be able to take you around local villages which rarely if ever see tourists (trust us, we've tried and tested this - and we were introduced to villagers who had never met tourists before and were a little startled by our big, white heads!)

Expect to sample a completely authentic and unspoilt lifestyle and culture - but do not expect luxury - it is ideal for those who want to get into the beating heart of southern Laos and well off the tourist trail.
