Paperbark Camp officially opened in 1999 after years of dreaming and planning by the owners, Jeremy & Irena Hutchings. With the help of their family and a dedicated team of staff, the camp remains a family operated business and continues to be at the forefront of ecotourism and luxury camping in Australia.

Just 2.5 hrs drive south of Sydney near the clear waters and white beaches of Jervis Bay, the camp offers a unique blend of fine food and wine, cosy canvas accommodation and a peaceful bush setting.

The Tents
The 12 canvas safari style tents have been placed amongst the soaring eucalypts and paperbarks. All tents have wrap around decking with outdoor furniture, polished hardwood floors, full insect screening, solar powered lighting as well as high quality linen and all the hotel amenities one would expect of a luxurious camping experience. They also feature an open-air private en-suite, perfect for kangaroo spotting while enjoying a hot shower. While the Original safari tents include a shower, the Deluxe or King Deluxe tents come with a free standing bathtub.

Paperbark Camp follows a sustainable philosophy and has Advanced Eco Accreditation. As such, there is no air-conditioning or heating, TV, bar fridge or power points for technology (but power and Wi-Fi can be accessed in the Gunyah Restaurant).

The Facilities
The Gunyah, designed by Sydney architects Nettleton Tribe, is built high off the ground amongst the tree tops. When it is warm enough, outdoor dining on the verandah is possible, providing a bushy backdrop to candlelit meals and to observe the goings on of the resident possums, sugargliders and colourful birdlife.

The Gunyah also serves as reception and communal lounge where guests are welcome to help themselves to tea or coffee during the day.

The property has some easy walking trails that meander through paperbark, gum and mangrove forests and are perfect for a stroll before breakfast (a great time for spotting kangaroos).
Complimentary bikes and canoes are provided for guests enjoyment.
Massages and some beauty treatments are available by appointment.

Paperbark Camp is closed during winter from June until the first weekend of September.
